I braved a swim in the warm waters of the South China Sea this morning. The water was lovely and for once the plastic bags and other garbage were invisible. After lunch we went on a tour of the North part of the island which looks on to Cambodia. In an old hut purporting to be a restaurant, we looked out on to fishing boats lying lazily in the green waters. In the distance was a tiny crazy island with one tree growing diagonally out from one end. The Vietnamese name for the Island translates to One-Tree Island.
The villagers make small rafts made out of styrofoam pieces fastened together with a small plastic chair (a la Reject Shop) fastened to the floor. The fishermen use these to get out to their boats rowing by pushing forward on to the oars rather than pulling back like we do. Resourceful but what happens to the Styrofoam when it falls apart?
This evening we decided we would go on to Hanoi so we ran down to the Vietnamese Airlines office before it closed at 7pm and booked to go on to Hanoi from Saigon tomorrow. After that massive task we were booked in for massages. I had a hot rock massage and decided I really liked the feel of the hot rocks. After a steam bath and hot ginger tea it was back to a restaurant for dinner and bed. mmmm!
By the way heapum big storm seems to have fizzled out or totally missed us. The weather has been warm and dry with a dusty sun in the sky.

Mum says u bloody burn that green stick. No now any good. They loose. I not now want them Too fat for me. U take down and burn ,Put more carbon into air……how eles I get ride of the green poster?
I think I have been here to long .Begin to speak/think like em. I sure I will get back normal when in two year I return.
